jason, Adjust your clutch with 3/4 in. of freeplay or what the manuel quotes. Then press your clutch all the way in and tie it down. Leave it there for 24 hrs. and see if it make a difference. Also make sure it has light viscosity fluid in the trans.

Read somewhere that pure synthetic is a poor choice for a diesel motor. It said something about the way synthetic is manufactured it cannot separate the contaminates or combustion by-products properly. Maybe someone else has heard this?? I will try to dig up my info.

Hay, You are right about the 70 series. I recently moved 2500 miles across country. My wife tried to talk me into selling my 870 and buying a new tractor after the move. Since I wanted to stay green the only choice for a new one was the JD 4300 to replace my 870. I said forget it. She said --- we are NOT hauling that thing 2500 miles. Well I ended up hauling it 2500 miles to my new home since I was afraid I would never find another 870 to replace it---Glad I did now. Yes, the ultimate tractor would be a 70's series with a reliable hydro. But thats not going to happen. So for probably my lifetime I will stick to my trusty 870. regards Mike t.

Franks, sound like a good deal. Thats about the same package deal that came with my 870. About the same price I paid but my 870 had less hours. Yes, if you compare the 70's series with the 4000 you will find the 70's are more stout and commercial-like. Just the other day I was at my 870 trans. housing on the left of the pto and noticed "1070" stamped on the housing. They must have put the 1070 trans in the 870?? Anyway its a proven design but lacks the fancy hydro on the 4000. My neighbor bought a new 4300 and sat in the shop on and off all Summer while my trusty 870 was out doing chores. 95% of my work is bushhogging thus I use only ONE gear all day, elimating the need for a hydro.

Hi Jeff, For winter storage--- Max out your fuel tank with #2 ONLY! Use a fuel conditioner for diesel. Change your oil before winter (acids in combustion by-products). Fill battery to specs. Start motor every couple weeks and run at fast idle 1200 rpm until warm. The main thing is to change to oil before storage. Diesels are notorious at oil contamination.

Roger, Ags give me WAY MORE security when operating on hilly terrian. As shear habit and for safety issues I always mow up and down no matter how steep the slope is. Ag tires enable you to go slower downhill and uphill with far less slippage. With turf tires I can only make it halfway up and that dreaded wheel-spin happens thus forcing a dangerous mid-hill turn or backdown.

Yea Dave, I heard the same thing about not changing your hydro fluid at 50 hrs on the Kubota board. Many Kubota and Deere service managers don't reccommend a 50 hrs. hydro change. But those are the guys that have never cleaned a plugged pick-up screen at 50 hrs or looked at all the metal shavings in the fluid or sliced open the filter and looked at the insides in sunlight. I have done all those things and believe me 50 hrs. service is a good choice--- Just like the manuel says.

paying cash for big-ticket items is a thing of the past nowdays. The poor man just does'nt have the cash for these items so he normally finances. The rich man knows his cash is better off invested elsewhere stocks, bonds real estate etc. so he better off financing or leasing for a right-off.
